DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide.
DRI is currently recruiting a Board Member.
Your tasks
Board members play an active role in keeping DRI relevant, well-governed, and growing. In practice, this means:
- Carrying out governance functions under our gGmbH statutes, including oversight of the executive directors
- Advising and supporting DRI's management
- Helping mobilise resources through your networks, and representing DRI at meetings and events
- Contributing to shaping DRI's overall strategy
Conditions
Board membership runs for four years. The start date is to be agreed. The role is voluntary and unremunerated. Travel and accommodation for board meetings and official DRI representation are covered by DRI.
Your skills and experience
Board members attend four meetings per year (usually three online meetings and one in-person meeting in Berlin), read monthly updates, and stay in regular contact with fellow board members. You'd draw on your networks and expertise to advise DRI's management and advance our mission. The time commitment averages around 2–4 hours per month. You're also welcome to join DRI events in your area of expertise or participate in field missions or public events.
What are we looking for?
We're particularly looking for someone with a background in communications, outreach, finances or fundraising — expertise that would complement existing board strengths in diplomacy, politics, management, media, and law. A genuine commitment to democracy and political pluralism is essential.
You should be fluent in English (other languages are a plus) and able to travel to Berlin once a year.
We value diversity and actively encourage applications from people whose background and perspective would complement those of our existing board and team.
