Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin with several country offices worldwide. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. 

DRI is implementing the project “Strengthening Resilience against Disinformation in Sri Lanka” with a duration of 18 months starting from January 2024. Under the supervision of DRI Sri Lanka’s Project Manager and in collaboration with DRI HQ’s Communications Team the DRI Sri Lanka’s Communications Coordinator will develop and implement an effective communications strategy for the project and DRI’s activities in Sri Lanka. The Communications Coordinator will liaise with project partners on the development of communications materials and messages.
Your tasks
  • Develop a comprehensive communications and dissemination strategy for the project that secures the support of the project team, partners, donor, and stakeholders. 
  • Implement the project’s communications and dissemination strategy. 
  • Set objectives and action plans for the communications strategy. 
  • Coordinate and guide partners and subgrantees in following the project’s visibility rules and communications and dissemination strategy and plan. 
  • Analyse the outcomes of communications actions and their impacts within DRI's monitoring and evaluation system. 
  • Prepare a communications budget under the supervision of the Project Manager. 
  • Produce or coordinate the production of all visibility and communication materials, including brochures, posters, press releases, and pamphlets. 
  • Collaborate with the project team and partners to organize events. 
  • Manage the project’s website and social media pages, providing relevant information for DRI’s online communication tools. 
  • Develop and draft content for the DRI website, social media channels, press releases, factsheets, and other communications materials.  
  • Build a network of contacts within the country's key media outlets and other stakeholders. 
  • Organize communication events, such as press conferences as needed. 
  • Supports activity-related outreach and media relations (developing media and social media messages, writing press materials, promoting and communicating content in English, Sinhala and Tamil). 
  • Contribute to various project reports by providing media and social media analysis and adding illustrations/photos related to activities. 
  • Monitor and track DRI and project media mentions and media coverage.   
  • Ensure gender and diversity mainstreaming across all communications.  
  • Perform any other task related to the position. 
Your skills and experience
Required: 
  • University degree in communications, journalism, media studies, or a related field. 
  • At least 4 years of work experience in in website and social media platforms management.   
  • Copywriting and editing skills, ability to write engaging media content for a variety of audiences. 
  • Attention to detail, sense of accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, political sensitivity, diplomacy, and active listening. 
  • Autonomy and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and with a range of partners. 
  • Versatility to handle the varied activities associated with communication. 
  • Good command of English; proficiency in Sinhala and Tamil.   
  • Excellent IT skills 
  • Proficiency in office software and photo editing tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). 
  • Familiarity with online technologies (Web, Blogs, Social Media, etc.)
Preferred 
  • Knowledge and experience with digital democracy topics (online discourse, social media monitoring, disinformation and online hate speech)
