Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes the political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. 
 
DRI has supported Ukraine’s democratic transformation since 2014 through an office in Kyiv and work across the country. Our focus has been on political education, youth participation, awareness-raising on constitutional/judicial reform issues, decentralisation and legal analysis of democratic governance and the rule of law.  
 
DRI has also worked on strengthening civic space, building civil society and media capacity, and countering disinformation through advanced social media monitoring. DRI frequently collaborates with central and local government authorities and enjoys wide networks among civil society, think tanks, universities, and Ukraine’s international partners.  
With the start of the war, DRI had to close its office in Kyiv temporarily but continued its work with Ukrainian partners on issues like countering Russian disinformation and ensuring a more resilient Ukrainian democracy in the context of the war and emergency measures. 
 
 
To help drive this work, DRI is currently recruiting a full-time Communications & Outreach Officer for its Country Office in Kyiv, Ukraine. We are in search of an experienced professional with excellent outreach skills in the democratic development sector and with the ability to fit into DRI’s culture of delivery, excellence, impact and teamwork.  


Your tasks
In collaboration with and under the supervision of the Country Director - Ukraine, you will contribute to the entirety of the project cycle while ensuring compliance with donor commitments, internal DRI policies, and the objectives of the DRI Ukraine office. 
 
More specifically, the Communications and Outreach officer will be responsible for the following tasks: 
  • Supports in management of the social media channels and other means for outreach; 
  • Assists in drafting and editing targeted content for publication, mostly for digital channels (website, social media, email…); 
  • Assists in developing, and coordinating the preparation of, visual products that highlight our work, especially infographics as well as short videos; 
  • Monitors the reach and impact of the project using analytics and other reporting tools; Identifies potentially newsworthy topics for communications outreach, supports in keeping a press contacts database updated and assists in preparing communications packages: press releases and/or other content for the press; 
  • Keeps track of news on the organisation and creates clipping reports; 
  • Supports the implementation of specific communications plans for the organisation’s project; 
  • Contributes to the development of communications strategies and plans for DRI, notably social media strategies;. 
  • Supporting the Country Director in outreach tasks. 
  • Other relevant duties, as required. 
Your skills and experience
Required:
  • University degree in communications, media studies, journalism, marketing, political or social science, international affairs, or other related fields; 
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in communications, journalism or other positions  with a strong interest in communications; 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Ukrainian (ideally in English too), including proven editing and writing skills; Strong IT skills and experience working with a website Content Management System; 
  • Strong skills in digital communications (social media, writing for an online audience, copywriting, mailing...); 
  • Experience preparing social media banners, audio-visual materials and infographics for dissemination on the web; 
  • Gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities; 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multi-national and multicultural environment. Good interpersonal, teamwork and communications skills; 
  • Political awareness, including of Ukraine and the EU , and interest in democratic development; 
  • Good organisational skills and a capacity to work independently. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects. 
  • Proactive attitude and attention to details; 
  • The ability to travel inside Ukraine (if security allows) and abroad.  
Preferred:
  • Design experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and other programs; 
  • Basic knowledge of international democracy and human rights standards. 
  • Experience with international non-profit organisations. 
  • Background in local governance and civil society-focused projects.
